This December, we’re excited to feature Jordan from Hidden Gem Coffee in Tugun. Get to know Jordan below!
What’s your name and where do you work?
My name is Jordan Cavanagh, and I work at Hidden Gem Coffee.
What inspired you to become a barista?
I became a barista through my love of speciality filter coffee at home and always chasing the perfect cup.
How do you start your day before a shift?
I start each day with a banana, a muesli bar, and a podcast full of interesting facts.
What’s your favourite part of working at the café?
My favourite part of working at Hidden Gem is seeing the look on a customer's face when they see my latte art, as well as working with the wonderful team every day.
Can you share a memorable interaction you’ve had with a customer?
I once returned a lost dog that had been wandering outside the café. The owner thanked me profusely and came in the next day with a gift.
How do you perfect your latte art? Any tips?
Being efficient and organised gives you time to practise more complex designs. Also, always start with the exact amount of milk you need.
What’s your favourite blend or origin, and why?
My favourite blend is Picasso Baby. It’s light and a bit fruity, but not too acidic. I have it in a small long black every morning.
What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?
I love classic horror novels and can play the ukulele.
